In addition to China, Gunpowder is also cultivated in Taiwan. The rather tightly rolled leaves of Gunpowder tea resemble small pellets, from which the name Gunpowder originates. When brewed, the rolled gunpowder tea leaves unfurl. Gunpowder has a very strong, somewhat bitter, pungent, and smoky taste.
Gunpowder can be steeped multiple times, which mellows and softens the flavor. Formosa Gunpowder is a slightly brighter green than its Chinese counterpart. The taste is aromatic and strong.
Steeping time is 1-3 minutes, water temperature 75-80 degrees Celsius, dosage 1 teaspoon per cup or 4-5 teaspoons per liter.
